I recently received an email from a student looking to take their OSCP exam this coming July and was searching for the best prep tips I could offer.
After providing the best insight I could conjure up and alleviating some of his concerns, I decided to publish my response (sanitized of all PII, of course).

Good evening,First off thanks for reaching out, always happy to help point you in the right direction. I appreciate your background information as that certainly helps.The fact that you have 3 months lab time is awesome, and will give you plenty of time to really go after the majority of the lab machines.I would absolutely recommend going after the exam, I believe it is an extremely important milestone in one's progression and will not cause your dev knowledge to atrophy, if anything it helped mine overall.
